Diamonds and Dior

Dior Diorskin Poudre Shimmer in Amber Diamond (002). I could've snapped up this famed highlighter from StrawberryNET ages ago, but I rationalised I already had Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Crème in Rose Gold and theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer, so I passed. Soon enough, it was sold out and I never saw it make an appearance again. I'd always included it on my wishlist, but given how difficult it was to track down online (except this one semi-dodgy looking website which I didn't want to take a chance on), procuring it was pushed to the back of my mind. When Tarazz recently held a $10 flat rate shipping promotion for purchases from Sephora, I split the cost with a friend and took the opportunity to finally make Amber Diamond mine.

In sunlight

Amber Diamond consists of 5 strips of yellow/peachy/gold shimmer. A couple of the strips are tiny, so it would be a challenge to use them in isolation. I find it a bit unusual to have to select from the different gradations of colour because I'm used to highlighters being just one shade, but I normally just focus around the middle and dab my brush on either side to get a little bit of everything. It's still distinctly shimmery, but the particles are very fine and impart more of a luminous sheen than something more obvious and almost gritty. It's the only highlighter that I don't hate when I take it down the bridge of my nose — it doesn't look strange or unnatural. It's more subtle and glowy than theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer which is stronger but less refined, but it's also more pronounced than the unassuming Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Crème in Rose Gold. It's quickly become my preferred go-to highlighter and something I eagerly reach for every day. I definitely like it more than my theBalm, though I'm not sure whether it overtakes the Jemma Kidd as my absolute favourite. There are undoubtedly far cheaper alternatives which give more or less the same effect (such as the Models Prefer highlighter in Glitz & Glamour), but after lusting over Amber Diamond and holding out for as long as I did, my patience has been rewarded and it's lived up to my lofty expectations.

  1. Too pretty! Recently I've unexpectedly taken to highlighter and although I have enough, they're always so nice to look at and swatch. Dior Amber Diamond is so so luxurious and when you've wanted it for as long as you have, it's worth the hassle. And what you said about highlighting down the bridge of the nose is so true! :)

  2. It looks beautiful!!! I like how it's more of a luminous sheen than sparkles. Your post just reminded that I have two Dior face palettes myself which I have unfortunately neglected and long forgotten about. Jemma Kid is not available in Canada so I think Amber Diamond might be something I'd look into for highlighting. I'm not a fan of highlighters because of my oily skin but this seems to spark an interest uh-oh. :P

  6. I passed up the opportunity to buy this at a Myer counter when it had just been discontinued and they only had the one left on hand. I regret that decision to this day!!

  8. ooooh so gorgeous!! so many people love it, and soo bad I want to give it a go, but I am concerned about it might be too shiny for my already oily skin. I rarely have luck with highlighter that is not matte and the price tag is not nice to just try around and end up not liking it T.T
it looks so nice on you, not greasy at all!!

  13. I have wanted this powder forever, but I feel it may be too dark on my ghostly white skin. It suits yours perfectly !

  14. that's easily my all time fav highlighter. I love the white shade for highlighting my inner corner and brow bone too. For some reason I can't find an eyeshadow that perfectly brightens and adds a shimmery touch without looking off.

  15. I absolutely love Dior Amber Diamond it gives a lovely subtle shimmer on cheek bones like no other, I either choose this or Mac MSF Soft and Gentle(but this isnt as finely milled as Dior)! Enjoy it hun!!

  16. So pretty *-*
I always end up ignoring Dior Products because of their price and package (too big for my personal taste, I prefer packages like Sleek or Nars), but this blush/highlighter is soo pretty. I think it's something I would try to get (not now, because I have other plans and other things that I want to get).
It looks really nice on you!
    Please Take Care,
    Have a nice day!*

  18. OH MY GOD I HATE YOU SO MUCH (IN THE MOST LOVING OF WAYS)!!!!!!!!! I have wanted this for... ever? Seriously, I think this was the very first makeup product I lusted over when I got into beauty. I still haven't been able to find justification for it but one of these days maybe... ahhhh it's nice to dream sometimes haha. Anyways, I'm so happy to hear that this lived up to your expectations (it certainly lives up to mine when I swatch it in Sephora which is, oh I don't know, EVERY time I go in there) and that you finally got your hands on it :)

  19. So glad you managed to get your hands on one finally! I totally agree about it giving you a sheen and I also like to take mine down the bridge of my nose. I thought it was funny that it says "All over face powder" as I do think it's a little too much to use all over the face. I would prefer to mix a little bit of liquid highlighter like Benefit's High Beam into my foundation for that kind of a look, but I do just love how subtle this is, it's very hard to go overboard!

  22. This glows perfectly on you! Ehh I don't know about Amber Diamond. I own it but rarely reach for it. It just doesn't wow me. Every time I apply it, it isn't noticeable enough on me or anything ground breaking. Maybe I'll bring it out and give it another shot...

  23. This is way too pretty. I've had this product on my wishlist for such a long time now. I should really just go for it.

  25. So glad you are enjoying it! I don't reach for it often on a day to day basis (more special event), but when I do I'm always reminded what a lovely highlight it is :)

  27. This Dior highlighter looks absolutely luxurious! It is funny that is has more than one shade but I guess blending them all together is the way to go. I really love how it gives that glowy effect on your cheekbones and makes them really pop! Isn't it just the best feeling when something lives up to your expectations, and no regrets whatsoever :P I have to say though, I haven't bought anything from Strawberrynet in a while due to one terrible experience with them! I also haven't seen any good deals for a while which is a shame :(

  28. I'm glad you finally got it! It looks like such a treat!
I have to say, i'm not a massive highlighter girl, i go through phases but this looks so pretty!!
